Zak Brilliant is an experienced distribution executive who has overseen the release of over 200 + films in the UK market. From mainstream, commercial hits to award winning, breakout, arthouse titles, his campaigns have generated over £150M at the UK box office.
In late 2018 he founded boutique distribution and theatrical servicing agency Republic. A new type of business calibrated to the UK marketplace focusing on quality, critically received independent films. Releases so far include Jellyfish and Freak Show. Titles scheduled for later in the year include For Sama and Brittany Runs a Marathon.
From 2012 to 2018 he held the position of Head of Theatrical at Icon Film Distribution. In this role he oversaw the day-to-day running of the theatrical distribution business, managing the distribution team and each release campaign. Successful campaigns included The Nice Guys, While We’re Young and The Guest amongst others. Titles that he personally acquired include The Babadook, It Follows and Kedi. In 2016 he set up the successful genre label FrightFest Presents, overseeing the acquisition and distribution of low budget horror titles. Summer 2018 saw the release of Netflix Original Cargo starring Martin Freeman on which he receives an Executive Producer credit.
Previous to this role he led the publicity team at Icon. Campaigns he ran include Drive, A Single Man, The Road, Man on Wire, La Vie en Rose and The Passion of the Christ, garnering over twenty BAFTA nominations in an eight-year period. In 2010 his team won the Screen International campaign of the year award for their work on Precious.
Prior to Icon he held positions at both Universal Pictures and Polygram Filmed Entertainment.
